CNG AMT car – Tiago hatchback launched

This week, Tata Motors launched the India’s first CNG AMT car – Tiago hatchback in the country. It is the first CNG car in the country to be coupled with an AMT gearbox. Broadly available in three variants – Tiago CNG, Tiago NRG CNG, and Tigor CNG got new AMT variants.

Prices and Mileage :

The prices of the model range from Rs. 7.90 lakh to Rs. 8.90 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). All these models use the same 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed AMT and offer a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.06 km/kg. Now, we list down the on-road prices of the Tiago CNG AMT in the top 10 cities of India. The prices in India start at Rs. 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.06km/kg.

CNG AMT car Varinats :

In terms of variants, the Tiago CNG AMT will be offered in three options – XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG, and XZA NRG. On the other hand, the Tigor iCNG AMT will be available in two variants – XZA CNG and XZA+ CNG.

CNG AMT car Engine :

At the heart of the Tiago CNG AMT is a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. In CNG mode, the engine’s output is reduced to 72bhp and 95Nm of torque. This motor comes paired with a five-speed AMT unit that returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.06km/kg.

In a first in India, Tata Motors introduced the CNG AMT automatic variants for two of its popular models, the Tiago and Tigor. The Tiago CNG AMT will be available in three different variants, with prices ranging from Rs 7.90 lakh to Rs 8.80 lakh, while the Tigor iCNG will come in two variants, priced between Rs 8.85 lakh and Rs 9.55 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom rates. Customers eager to get their hands on these new models can book by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000.

Despite the introduction of CNG technology, Tata has retained the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine without any modifications. This engine delivers 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque when running on petrol, with slightly reduced figures of 73 bhp and 95 Nm when using CNG. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual unit and a 5-speed AMT.

Tata assures customers that the performance of these vehicles remains consistent whether running on petrol or CNG. The AMT gearbox also comes with a ‘Creep’ functionality, while the manufacturer claims that restart gradability matches that of petrol vehicles, setting a benchmark in the segment.

The rising popularity of CNG vehicles can be attributed to the increasing accessibility of CNG fuel. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the CNG variants of Tiago and Tigor witnessed a significant growth of 67.9 per cent compared to the previous year. With the introduction of the new AMT variants, Tata Motors anticipates further growth in sales.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Amit Kamat, Tata Motors’ Chief Commercial Officer said, “CNG, known for its widespread availability and accessibility, has garnered considerable acceptance over the years. Tata Motors has revolutionized the CNG segment with various industry firsts like the twin-cylinder technology, high end feature choices and direct start in CNG. In the past 24 months we have sold more than 1.3 lakh CNG vehicles.
