California Senator Dianne Feinstein dies at 90

The California Senator Dianne Feinstein dies at the age of 90. Dianne Feinstein was the longest-serving female US senator in history. After months of deteriorating health, She died on Thursday night at her home in Washington.

Her death provides California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom the right to appoint a replacement for Feinstein, retaining the Democratic majority in the legislature until early January 2025.

When federal funding is poised to expire, at that time Feinstein dies. Also Congress is divided over how to avert a government shutdown, despite Senate Democrats maintaining a majority even without her.

Feinstein, a former San Francisco mayor, was a significant force in California politics for decades. Then she elected to the United States Senate for the first time in 1992. During her political career, she smashed several glass ceilings, and her influence was felt heavily in some of Capitol Hill’s most historic endeavors in recent history. She also served on the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary Committees on a regular basis.

Feinstein was born in San Francisco in 1933. She got a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in 1955. In 1978, the state’s first openly gay official, Feinstein was elected mayor of San Francisco, after the deaths of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.

In a 2017 interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Feinstein revealed the day when Moscone and Milk were killed. Feinstein was a member of San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors at the time, and assassin Dan White was a friend and employee.
